Weapons Classes


Bo Staff

When the island of Okinawa was occupied by the Japanese in the 17th century, Islanders, by law, were forbiden to carry weapons. In order to protect themselves, the art of karate (empty hand combat) was delevoped. As well, the Islanders learned how to use everyday items as defensive and offensive weapons.

Nunchucks Weapons classes at Family Karate, teach the traditional art of four of these non-weapons

The Bo Staff was originally either a walking stick or a yoke used to carry buckets of water

KamaNunchucks were used as a hand held bridle to ride horses bareback.

Kamas were hand held sythes used to harvest grain.

Escrima was a short staff used to thash rice and other grains
